The College of Comparative Law held a mock job interview for this year’s graduating students who applied for different levels of Civil Servant Examination to enhance their interview skills in Colleg Conference Room on Haidian Campus on the afternoon of 18 Feb, 2025.

Student Tutor Zhou Fangzheng participated in the whole process of guidance and invited senior Civil Servant Examination interview training experts as examiners. Each procedure of the mock interview followed the instructions of the interview session of the national and Beijing regional examination for 2025 admissions to the civil service. 8 graduating students participated in the rehearsal.

This activity simulated a structured interview in a real-life environment. In combination with the types of interview questions in the recent Beijing and National Examinations, the examiners conducted interviews in the form of mock questions. The students entered the examination room in turn to complete their answers. Other students were allowed to sit aside in silence to observe and learn from other interviewees after finishing their own, comparing the performance of others to reflect on their own shortcomings to achieve the goal of ‘test to promote learning, learning to promote excellence’.

After the interview, the examiners made comments one by one in terms of language expression, logical thinking and deportment. They also pointed out common problems such as “examination deviation” and “lack of examples”. Zhou reminded students to pay attention to the coherence of logic and expression from the perspective of examiners.

At the end of the event, the examiners summarised the performance of all students, advised candidates to strengthen the accumulation of political hot spots, and encouraged everyone to meet the formal exam with confidence and calm attitude.

Participating students said that the mock interview effectively alleviate their anxiety before the exam and helped them clear the direction of improvement. “The examiners' comments were sharp and made me realise that I needed to pay more attention to the depth of policy theories,” said one student who was applying for a post in a central government ministry. “The observation process made me intuitively feel the gap, and I will focus on strengthening the training of logical frameworks,” said another examinee.

Through the mode of ‘actual combat exercise + precise guidance’, this simulated interview activity effectively improved the interview competitiveness of graduating students and laid a solid foundation for the them to stand out in the Beijing examination and the national examination. In the future, the College would continue to deepen its career guidance services to help students realise their career aspirations.
