The Annual Meeting of Beijing Comparative Law Society of 2024 was successfully held on Haidian Campus, 19 Oct, 2024.
The event was sponsored by the Beijing Comparative Law Society, and co-organised by the College, Beijing Zhongce Law Firm and Beijing Fayi Technology Company. Over 80 experts and scholars in comparative law and law practitioners from law firms and enterprises attended the conference to discuss on the theme of ‘Comparative Law in the Digital Age’.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Li Xiaohui, Vice President & Secretary-General of the Beijing Comparative Law Society and professor at the College. Liu Chaomao, Second-Level Inspector of Beijing Law Society, and Shi Jianzhong, Vice President of the University, presented opening remarks respectively.
On behalf of Beijing Law Society, Liu Zhaomao warmly congratulated the opening of the conference. He indicated that it is a new requirement and direction for legal research to actively explore the construction of digital rule of law and establish and perfect digital legal research. To this end, Liu Zhaomao raised his expectations for the Beijing Comparative Law Society, hoping that the society would be brave enough to actively promote the study of digital law from the perspective of comparative law, unite to lead the majority of foreign-related legal workers to provide deep academic support and practical experience for the construction of foreign-related rule of law.
On behalf of our school, Shi extended a warm welcome to all the experts and scholars. He pointed out that China has full determination and confidence in the construction o 'Chinese-style’ digital rule of law, and that it is required to give full play to the advantages and functions of comparative law research in the process of promoting the realisation of digital rule of law. He said, the research under the category of comparative law can help to consolidate the theoretical construction and practical development of digital rule of law, and help to construct the country’s own knowledge system of digital law.
Afterwards, Dean of the College & President of the Beijing Comparative Law Society Xie Zhiyong made a report on the annual work of the Society. Xie reported on the work accomplished by the Society in 2024 in terms of Party building, society activities, system building, membership services, finance and the annual review of civil society organisations. He thanked the Beijing Law Society, China University of Political Science and Law and members of the Beijing Comparative Law Society for their support and affirmation of the work of the society, and looked forward to the discussion of ‘domestic law + foreign law’ and ‘academic contention + practical exchange’ at this annual meeting, which he believed can offer intellectual solutions that can be shared and referenced to the goal of building a strong nation with ‘Digital China’ and ‘Rule of law in China’.
During the keynote speech, Prof. Fei Anling from the College gave an academic report on the Perfection of the Codification of China’s civil law: the experience and modern development of Roman Law.
In the sub-venue, sub-forum on the New Developments in Comparative Law Research in the Digital Age, sub-forum on the Frontiers of Digital Law, lawyer salon on the Lawyers in the Digital Age and round table on the New World Patterns and Foreign Legal Research were held simultaneously. College faculty members Prof. Mou Xiankui, A/Prof. He Qihao, Dr. Li Xiang and Dr. Xu Jianbo presented their reports, with Prof. Li Xiaohui, Prof. Feng Kai and Prof. Yuan Yi as moderators and panelists.
