Sino-Italian Law Forum Serial Lectures:Antonio Saccoccio delivers a lecture

Prof. Antonio Saccoccio, Professor of law at University of Rome "La Sapienza" & Deputy Director of Latin American Legal Research Centre of the University of Rome "Tor Vergata", delivered a lecture on the Roman Law, Codification, Decodification and the Unification of Law to the students on Haidian Campus on the evening of 23 Oct, 2024.



The lecture was held online and on-site. Prof. Zhai Yuanjian from the College moderated the lecture. Prof. Wang Yingying from the School of Civil and Commercial Law of the Northwest University of Politics and Law, A/Prof. Li Fei from the School of Law of Huaqiao University, A/Prof. Song Xiaoqing from the School of Law of Hunan University and A/Prof. Tang Botao from the Kenneth Wang School of Law of of Suzhou University were the commentators.



Taking why people need to learn Roman law as an entry point, Saccoccio analysed the core values of Roman law in its historical evolution, as well as the performance of subsequent Roman law that was studied and absorbed by various countries.



During the discussion, Zhai summed up and summarised Saccoccio’s lecture, and analysed his talk combining with the Civil Code of China. Subsequently, Wang Yingying pointed out the flexibility and openness of the legislation of Roman law in the whole development process. Combined with his own learning and working experience, Song discussed how to make good use of Roman law under the background of globalisation and artificial intelligence. Li highlighted the relationship between the Chinese Civil Code and Roman law and his concern on the new trends. At last, Tang analysed the foundation function of Roman law for the development of law in Italy and other countries, and deconstructed the spirit of universality in Roman law.



At the end of the lecture, Zhai once again thanked Professor Saccoccio, the panelists and the participants. He hoped that Saccoccio would be invited to the University for more academic exchanges and discussions in the future.
